Two newcomers join the club.
Maria from Sweden and Charles from Singapore complete this month’s trio. Just to give you a quick preview, let me tell you what titles I was thinking about for the episode: “Earth Hour in the Nude” and “Fun Swedish Nurse Stories”. Yes, I know!
So we had a lot of fun during the show, but we also tackled serious issues though, like “these tough economic times” (drink), the pope’s controversial statements and the ICC’s latest rulings. As well as pirate trials in Sweden, the end of French open bars and stories from Singapore that you won’t know whether you should laugh at or feel sad about…

The new Frenchspin site
Hi all, and welcome!
I’ve been talking for a while about the fact that I was having problems managing all the different blogs I set up over the past couple of years. Most of them are podcast blogs that don’t really see much activity outside of the show’s schedule, so it only makes sense that I would put all of that together in one convenient place.
Furthermore, it will allow me to add content much more easily in the future.
Please note that the “individual sites” (or minisites) are still sort of available through the use of categories: if you’re only interested in The Phileas Club and nothing else, you can go to the show’s minisite (available through the navbar on the top menu) and that’s all you’ll get.
I hope you enjoy the new organisation and the new homepage! As usual, all the comments and feedback are very welcome.
Phileas #10 – Usans

It’s seems I’m unable to keep the show to a reasonable length… No matter, with guests like Tom (from the US), Julio (from Argentina/Netherlands/Space) and Turki (from Saudi Arabia), anything less would seem like a waste.
This time we focus around serious and controversial topics like the Australian fires, the Isreali election, the terrorist attacks in Cairo, Hugo Chavez’s referendum and the right to be a revisionist, as well as more light hearted topics like the Oscars and the oil companies’ secret death rays from space.

[Edit: important correction about the Israeli elections]
In this episode we noted that Kadima was a split faction from Havoda, the left wing Israeli party. This was of course a mistake: Tzipi Livni’s Kadima party originated in the right wing Likoud party (and was created by Ariel Sharon in 2005, you’d think we’d remember that). Although more moderate, Kadima still stands to the right of the political spectrum (center-right). This explains further the comments about the left wing dramatically losing relevance after this election. It also gives hope that the Likoud and Kadima might find common ground form a viable government without needing to call on the the far right factions. Sincere apologies for the mistake.
