Loved this lasf show and wanted to offer a thought in e-sports relating to competitive play. E-sports are like athletic sports in that we bask in the reflected glory of our favorite competitors or teams, but unlike athletics anyone can play competitively in the same pool as professionals. We’re still a bit early along to understand how the psychological effects of e-sports on people, but I think being able to at least theoretically be in the same competitive league causes many of us to set unrealistic expectations on our own game play. I wonder if it would be better to have professional players not only play in special events, but playing on a separate version of a game altogether? Not sure its a solution to the expectations problem, but just a thought I had.

    • Thanks for the comment Jared. I absolutely agree with you, and that’s partly why I think a “bronze to grand master” system fits better. It gives the feeling that you’re competing within your own rank, to an extent…

  2. Enjoyed the episode.
    But…really you’re not pre-ordering No Man’s Sky?? You’ll be sorrry 😉
Sure, it’s over-hyped, and maybe it won’t be something we can sink days and days of playtime into like WoW or Destiny. But, it’s really innovative, and great to see a scalable approach to building a game world. My bet is you pre-ordered your copy a while ago and are just embarrassed to admit 🙂

    • Well, I can always buy it day 1 if everyone says it’s awesome… Not sure why anyone would pre-order these days, unless there are amazing bonuses you absolutely want.
